The Wilderness First Aid (WFA) class is designed to provide you with the tools you need to make important medical and evacuation decisions in remote locations. A two-day excursion that is arranged to meet the needs of trip leaders, campers, outdoor enthusiasts and individuals working in remote locations. It will introduce you to caring for people who become harmed or injured far from definitive medical care. Lectures and presentations are combined with simulated scenarios where mock patients will challenge you to integrate your learning. At the end of the course, you’ll have the knowledge, skills and ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations.

WFA training will include: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Basic First Aid (BFA). Both are mostly required in the Local Government Units and the Private Sectors. WFA skills are worth learning. This is mainly because in the wilderness, the following may not be present:
– Emergency Medical Service (EMS)
– Advanced Life Support (ALS)
– Prolonged Life Support (PLS)

Emergency incidents in the wild are due to inability of the people involved to control and manage an emergency situation. On worst case scenarios, these people may not have any knowledge and skills at all. Wilderness First Aid (WFA) training is designed specifically to address life threatening emergencies in the wild with the concept of utilizing what is available on scene. With the key principles from BLS and BFA trainings, WFA reinforces skills and knowledge that are more practical and most of the time crucial.

Taught by seasoned instructors in a two-day format. Learning takes place in outdoor settings regardless of weather conditions. Come prepared for wet, muddy, cold or hot environments.

RECOMMENDED FOR:
Avid hikers, teachers leading school trips, backcountry guides, trip leaders, private expedition groups, college/university outdoor education programs, hiking club trip leaders, wilderness therapeutic programs, and adventure race safety personnel.

Course duration: 2 Days 1 Night (20 hours)

This course is a great intro to acquiring outdoor survival skills. If you’re into nature adventures, this course is for you. We covered so much in 20 hours ( Basic life support, knots, knives, etc…) All the sections in the course serve as a glimpse into what a more in-depth course could be like and which skill you’d like to focus on next. Highly recommended for all outdoor enthusiasts! Sobrang saya din ng team. Our instructors, Sir Ricky and Cydrick, have been effective teachers in such a short time. Go for it na, guys. You won’t regret it.

The course is recommended even for those in the medical sciences who are fond of the outdoors or even those who are not. The scenarios emphasize field conditions not just on an outdoor hike or excursion but also in daily travels where one can encounter similar situations mainly the lack of gear and less ideal surroundings. Besides a crash course in Basic Life Support, splintage and bandaging, additional lessons in basic knots and firemaking is given which are necessary to stabilize and transport a patient. It encourages one to make use of the materials available on hand to improvise field expedients. Perhaps it can be described as BLS plus or Beyond BLS. One also gets to enjoy and experience outdoor life and new friends. Thanks to the competent structures and thanks to the organizers for a very useful activity.
