Knots are the hardest and easiest thing to learn in all outdoor skills. It is indeed hard for those who are learning it the first time knowing you have to memorize and master at least 6-8 knots to be able to prop a solid tarp shelter. But once you get used to it and you apply it every time you get the chance, it simply becomes a muscle memory. If you value your ropes/cordage and want to be versatile at camp, learn and practice your knots. What is the purpose of this workshop? Learn the fundamentals of knot-tying as well as the different knots and hitches in this practical session. Then, put your newfound knowledge to use building a functional and effective tarp/camping shelter.
Where is the workshop held? It will be an immersive outdoor setting on a private campsite. If you want a private class session, we can also come to you!
What makes this workshop crucial? Even if you never want to be in a survival scenario, learning able to tie knots and hitches will greatly simplify your life. You won’t ever again have to fight with string, twine, or rope, tangles, and hoping your improvised knot holds. Furthermore, having this knowledge in a survival or outdoor situation could save your life!
What to expect in this class? Individual knots are taught in order of complexity so that learners can feel accomplished while being challenged with increasing difficulty. The history, technique, and terminology of knot-tying are also covered in this workshop.
At the end of this class, participants collaborate to build a tarp shelter that can shield the entire group from the weather utilizing all of the knots that were discussed in the course. This project gives the group a sense of success and reinforces the new skills in a practical setting.
What will we learn? Knots & hitches covered include: overhand knot, double half hitch, slippery hitch, taut-line hitch, bowline, slippery figure eight, prusik, and trucker’s hitch, etc.. This class teaches Hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, history and vocabulary, physics, teamwork, creative problem-solving, and survival skills.
